GPI: Corruption in elections is an offense

The General Police Inspectorate (GPI), ahead of the general local elections of November 5, warns that corruption in elections is an offense. “Were you given money or products in exchange for votes? Were you done favors or made promises? These are offenses that are punished criminally,” says an informative video ad.

In accordance with the Criminal Code, the corruption of voters is punished with a fine of 37,500 to 57,500 lei or with one to five years in jail in the case of private individuals. For legal entities, the punishment consists of a fine of 300,000 to 400,000 lei, ban on performing a particular activity or liquidation of the legal entity.

The GPI calls on the citizens to express their will by a free vote and to obey all the measures and restrictions stipulated in the normative documents during the local elections.

As many as 898 mayors and 11,058 local councilors are to be elected in Moldova in the general local elections of November 5.
