The citizens behaved appropriately and only a small part of them disobeyed the law that bans the symbols of the Russian military aggression, said the head of the General Police Inspectorate (GPI)  Viorel Cernăuțeanu. He expressed his regret at the fact that many of those who chose to wear banned symbols are representatives of the political class, both members of Parliament and deputies of the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia. They were all identified and will be fined, IPN reports.

The GPI head said that since the law that bans symbols of the military aggression was promulgated, the police have conducted campaigns to inform the citizens about the risks to which they expose themselves if they go against the Parliament’s decision. Most of those who took part in the events dedicated to the Victory Day complied with the law.

“The police chose to avoid the scenario of provocations and tensions that had been witnessed earlier. Most of the citizens had a civic behavior and didn’t break the law. Regrettably, some of the citizens, who included persons holding high-ranking public posts, neglected the normative framework. There were received 42 materials, but one material can include tens of persons. There were already identified 103 persons who violated the law on banned symbols. Another 35 persons are being identified,” Viorel Cernăuțeanu stated in a special edition on the public TV channel.

In accordance with the law, the persons holding responsible posts who promote symbols of military aggression face fines of 9,000 to 18,000 lei.

“Ten persons holding public posts during the march violated the law. A part of these are former state functionaries. In Comrat, there were reported 11 violations of the law committed by deputies of the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia,” said the GPI head.

According to the General Police Inspectorate, 50 localities of the Republic of Moldova on May 9 staged events to celebrate Victory Day and these involved about 37,000 persons.
