Govt. sets military conscription target for May-June 2009

A number of 2,970 young persons will be conscripted into the army over May-June this year. Another 75 persons will be called up to do their military service for a reduced period of time, Info-Prim Neo reports. The decision was made by the Government on Wednesday, February 25. According to it, 1,360 young persons of the 2,970 will be drafted into the National Army, 700 into the Border Guard Service, while 910 into the Carabineer Troops. Twenty-five out of the 75 recruits that will do their military service for a reduced period will serve in the National Army, while 50 in the Border Guard Service. There was presented information about the conscription of young people into the army during November-December 2008. The following territorial-administrative units did not fulfill the drafting plan: Drochia (66.7%), Edinet (68.1%), Leova (85.2%), Sangerei (86.4%), Cahul (80.3%) and others. The districts of Cimislia, Rezina, Causeni, Dubasari and Soldanesti overfulfilled the plan. The Government’s decision stipulates local public authorities’ objectives for the drafting campaign and the method of financing the work of the recruitment commissions and the transportation of the recruits to the military units.
