Govt. confident to honor commitment of raising average salary to $300
The commitment of the Government made in the former electoral campaign to raise the average monthly salary to $300 may be carried out till December, Premier Zinaida Greceanai states. According to the Tax Inspectorate, now over 60% of employee receive salaries taxed 7%, what means they get salaries of up to 1,600 lei, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The Prime-Minister told a news conference on Sept. 29 that the statistics on the average salary of 2,600 lei in August and the analysis of its dynamics spoke that “attaining the objective is possible.”
The Government raised the salaries for 118,000 poorest remunerated employees as from October 1. They are kindergarten employees and teachers. The actual pay rise is 150 -180 lei.
“We should realize it well that any increase is possible, if we step up the economic and social reforms and we achieve significant economic growth,” Greceanai said. The premier the budget earners will have their salaries raised also in 2009, as the 2009 draft budget law provides for 600 million lei in this respect.
On September 25, the second day after the Cabinet endorsed the pay rises, teachers protested again. Some 3,500 people gathered in front of the Opera Theater, according to organizers. The protesters adopted a resolution asking the authorities to raise their salaries and improve their work conditions. According to teachers, 74% of them and almost all university professors will not be covered by the Cabinet pay rise decision.
