Govt. approves CIS agreement on ID database cooperation
The Moldovan Government on Wednesday, March 4, approved the Agreement of Cooperation in developing domestic databases of passports and new-type visas and their use in the member countries of the Commonwealth of Independent State (CIS), Info-Prim Neo reports.
The Agreement was signed on 14 November 2008, during the CIS heads of state summit in Chisinau.
“The agreement will lead to stronger collaboration among the CIS member countries in this field, with the application of modern IT solutions for population registration, for tracking migration, and for transborder cooperation between the law enforcement bodies”, said Information Development Minister Pavel Buceatski.
According to the minister, an obvious benefit of the agreement is the possibility for Moldova to promote its achievements in developing ID databases and issuing biometric passports, a process launched in Moldova in February 2008.
The agreement was signed among the CIS member countries for a 5-year term, with the possibility to withdraw within six months from signing.
