Governor of Gagauzia claims region’s right to participate in working out Moldova’s foreign policy

Governor of Gagauzia Mihail Formuzal claims the right of the autonomy to create its own political parties and to participate in working out the foreign policy of Moldova. These and other requests were presented by the Governor in his message on the occasion of region’s 17th independence anniversary. According to Formuzal, by voting for the parties from Chisinau, the inhabitants of the autonomy were always forced to believe thepromises that saying they will respect the interests of the voters from the south of Moldova. “The regional parties from Gagauzia will better guess the local specifics. On the other hand, the voters will have the possibility to better control the way the promises are implemented”, the governor said. Mihail Formuzal regrets that the frequent changes in the attitude of the politicians from Chisinau in what concerns the foreign policy endanger the interests of Gagauzia, including economic interests, generating serious problems to the autonomy. “We are minority and we can not impose our standpoint. But we will insist that the majority takes into consideration the interests of the people from Gagauzia, including in what concerns the development of sustainable political and economic ties with the Russian Federation and Turkey, but also establishing good relations with Ukraine and Romania”, Formuzal said. Referring to the Transnistrian conflict, the governor says that Gagauz Yeri should participate in the settlement process, and after the integration of the country to gain the same statute as Transnistria.
