Governor of Gagauzia accuses chairman of People’s Assembly of corruption

The Governor of Gagauzia Mihail Formuzal accuses the chairman of the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia Dumitru Constantinov and the head of Vulcanesti district Serghei Cerneov of corruption and affiliation to the criminal world. In a news conference given in Chisinau, the Governor said that he submitted materials that substantiate his accusations to the Prosecutor General’s Office and asked starting a criminal case, IPN reports.

Mihail Formuzal said the two functionaries held negotiations with prisoners convicted of serious crimes for them to force other detainees to give false testimony discrediting the administration of Gagauzia. Dumitru Constantinov and Serghei Cerneov form part of the Democratic Party (PDM), which is said to be involved in illegalities. “It is enough to become activist of this party and you immediately enjoy the support of the police,” stated the Governor. According to Mihail Formuzal, the PDM must be deprived of control over the state institutions, while the prosecution service should be depoliticized.

Contacted by IPN, spokesman for the chairman of the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia Nicolai Nechit said the Governor’s accusations are false and the law enforcement bodies will discover the truth.

The deputy chairman of the PDM Igor Corman said that Mihail Formuzal started his election campaign and urged him to concentrate on the stabilization of the political situation in the autonomous unit instead of making allegations about the party.
