Government’s spokesperson: May 9 should be not an element of division, but of unity

The Government’s spokesman Daniel Vodă said that the heroes fallen in World War II are commemorated in Moldova on May 9. This day also celebrates the Victory over Nazism and Fascism and the peace that embraced Europe after this historic victory - the peace that underpinned a united Europe and a prosperous Europe. May 9 should be not an element of division, but of unity, IPN reports.

“We also come with a warning of public interest. Over the coming days, we can expect history lessons from the Russian Federation, a state which, I remind, brought the war back to the European continent and promotes foreign symbols associated with May 9, such as the bicolored ribbon that has nothing to do with the victory over Nazism and fascism. And this is well known by historians. Therefore, to the unsolicited history lessons – we say no, thank you,” Daniel Vodă stated in a press conference.

he noted that peace and unity will be celebrated on May 9 throughout the European continent, which is extremely important for national cohesion here in the Republic of Moldova. Society must unite around national symbols, those that meet Moldova’s interests.

On May 9, the Government will have its pavilion in the Great National Assembly Square, along with those of the Member States of the European Union. The activities will start at 12 noon. Visitors will be able to discuss with members of the Cabinet of Ministers.

“The interested persons will be able to register for a trip to the Government Building So, the executive will open its doors wide, both to children and adults who will want to see where decisions that impact the citizens are taken. The trip will also include a visit to the institution’s museum, the executive’s meeting room, the media hall and other spaces. We promise a very interesting program. Also, the children will participate in a treasure hunt and each participant in the competition will receive a symbolic gift from the executive,” said the Government’s spokesman.

In the garden behind the Government’s Building, the visitors will be able to see various thematic exhibitions mounted by state institutions.

In the central square of Chisinau, 18 of the Member States of the European Union and 30 EU-funded projects in the Republic of Moldova will provide visitors with information about the activities carried out and the concrete or potential beneficiaries of the provided assistance. In the evening, the people are invited to a concert by Cristofor Aldea-Teodorovici & Orchestra, The Urs, Calancea’s Wolves, the ensemble “Hecenii”, Eurovision 2022 winners Kalush Orchestra from Ukraine, and others.

In the Republic of Moldova, May 9 is a nonworking day. This day marks the Day of Victory and Commemoration of the Heroes Fallen for the Independence of the Motherland, but also Europe Day.
