The downward trend as regards agriculture’s share in the GDP will persist in the immediate period. However, the role of the manufacturing sector, textiles and car spare parts production will increase, considers Jorg Radeke, team manager of the German Economic Team Moldova.

The Government’s role is to offer good conditions for all the sectors, the expert stated for IPN. “We speak about anti-corruption measures, supremacy of the law and a favorable investment climate. We speak about a balanced legislative framework: not too many and not too few rules,” stated Jorg Radeke. He noted that only after these rules are ensured, can we discuss the method by which the Government can intervene in particular areas of the economy.

The German expert said the industrial policies are complex subjects. It often happens that the politicians do not have very clear ideas about the sectors to which they should turn their attention.

According to Jorg Radeke, Moldova has particular competitive advantages in the agricultural sector. Even if agriculture’s contribution in the GDP decreases, this does not mean that the sector is not important. Simply there are also other sectors of the economy that develop faster. The governmental policies should devote similar attention to agriculture and other sectors with potential.
