Governmental commission to supervise adoption procedure

Deputy Prime Minister Victor Stepaniuc will manage the Commission for Adoptions set up under the Government. The commission is a consultative body entrusted with the task of supervising the observance of the legislation on adoption and the efficient distribution of the special resources collected as a result of international adoptions, Info-Prim Neo reports. The commission is composed of the Minister of Social Protection, Family and Child, the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Minister of Health, the Prosecutor General and other decision makers. Eugenia Conciar, division head at the Ministry of Social Protection, Family and Child, will act as secretary. On December 25, 2008, the Parliament passed the Law on the Legal Status of Adoption in second reading. The bill is now being edited and will be submitted to President Vladimir Voronin for promulgation, Minister of Social Protection, Family and Child Galina Balmos said. A number of 300 children are adopted by Moldovan families every year. The number of children adopted by foreign families has decreased. Ninety-five Moldovan children were adopted by foreign citizens in 2007, as against 64 in 2008.
