Governmental commission decides on list of importers and meat quantity to be imported in Moldova
A governmental commission will decide, depending on the necessities of supplying Moldova with meat, on which economic agents and what meat quantities they could import in Moldova.
At the Wednesday’s session of November 15, the Council of Ministers approved in this respect the provisional regulations regarding the issuance of licenses for meat imports.
Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Anatol Gorodenco explained the need of these regulations saying that till now the Government could not get stability for the meat supply, the import volume varying from inflated to insufficient quantities. According to him, the implementation of these regulations will create a transparent mechanism for providing stability of supplying Moldova’s market with meat.
This action of the Government was also determined by the necessity of protecting the domestic producer, provided that in the recent years Moldova registered a steady increase in meat production. Production of 69,000 tonnes of meat was registered last year, while in nine months of the current year it was produced 78,000 tonnes of meat, constituting an increase of about 12% compared to the corresponding period of last year. 18% increases are registered for the pork production and an 11% increase - for poultry.
Anatol Gorodenco said that if the production volume will increase at the same pace next years, in maximum 4 years Moldova’s market could be supplied only with meat of internal production.
