Government will set goals to implement presidential initiatives on Transnistria

Seven sectoral working groups will formulate within one month concrete plans of action to implement the initiatives by the President of Moldova concerning strengthening confidence and security with a view to settling the Transnistrian issue and providing social assistance to the population on the left bank of the Nistru River. The Government on Wednesday, October 24, adopted a decision establishing working groups that will formulate and implement projects to develop the infrastructure, to restore the rail transport to full capacity, to bring medical services and social assistance to the Transnistrian region, to improve education, to create favourable conditions for economic and social activity, to strengthen stability and ensure free circulation in the security zone, to provide humanitarian aid, and to ensure demilitarisation and disarmament of the region. The groups will include representatives from all the ministries and other governmental agencies. Under the government decision, the working groups shall draft joint projects in partnership with representatives from the Transnistrian region. If needed, the process will engage experts and other authorities representing the local administration. Prime Minister Vasile Tarlev suggested that representatives for labour unions, employers, businessmen and nongovernmental institutions should also get involved in working out the respective projects in order to “intensify the dialogue, gain trust and better positions”. Reintegration Minister Vasili Sova stated that Tiraspol is anxious to see the projects from Chisinau in order to start implementing them without delay.
