Government will receive money from abroad for building houses for flood victims after damage is assessed
Moldova’s foreign donors expressed readiness to provide financial assistance in constructing homes for the flood victims, but the support will be granted only after the damage caused by the floods is assessed. In the July 31 program “Public Life” on Radio Moldova, Minister of State Victor Bodiu said there will be set up a group of experts representing the international donor organizations and the Government of Moldova that will be entrusted with this task, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The construction of the 695 houses for flood victims will start from the money collected into the State Treasury Fund – €1.5 million. According to Bodiu, the joint team of experts at the start of next week will pay fact-finding visits to the flood-hit villages. The preliminary data will be available by August 12. A final report on the damage caused by the floods will be prepared by the end of August. “We hope that the money or building materials from abroad will come early in September so that the houses are built by the start of winter,” said the minister of state.
Victor Bodiu reiterated that a commission of the Ministry of Construction and Regional Development has drafted the house designs and started the infrastructure works. 450 houses for flood victims from Cotul Morii village will be erected in Leuseni village, while about 170 houses on the upper side of Nemteni village. The construction companies will be selected by contest by a council composed of foreign experts, representatives of flood victims and the local public administration. There will be purchased a number of finished homes.
The minister called on the people to continue donating provisions and medications, saying winter clothes and covers are not needed. After the floodwaters recede, the belongings of the people from the flood-stricken villages will be taken to safe places.
