The Government wants to initiate the free distribution of drinking water for the use of the population throughout the hot days, via enabling mobile water points. The issue was discussed during a governmental meeting, attended by representatives of the Ministry of Health, Internal Affairs and Public Administration, etc. They also reported on the need for rapid and efficient medical assistance and the prevention of emergency situations during the hot days. Prime Minster Vasile Tarlev requested the authorities to make sure that a strict control is in place for maintaining the quality of drinking water and food products available in commercial outlets. According to Minister of Health Ion Ababii, the medical-sanitary public institutions, including the National Scientific-Practical Centre for Emergency Medical Assistance, are prepared for such urgent actions. According to the minister, the number of emergency calls in this period increased by 15%, all requests being handled in a prompt manner. According to the Head of the Department for Emergency Situations of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Alexandru Sumleanschi, high temperatures and an ignorant attitude towards fire safety rules, led to fires in agricultural fields and forest areas.
