The executive decided to allocate 2 million lei to the Ministry of the Environment for removing the water from the meadow of the Prut River. The money will be used to pay for the electricity consumed by the pumping stations, IPN reports.

After the September rain, the water collected in the meadow flooded 8,200 hectares of farmland in Cahul district and 2,500 hectares in Cantemir district.

Minister of the Environment Gheorghe Salaru said the damage caused to farmers was assessed at 32 million lei. The sum may rise if no measures are taken to remove the water from the flooded areas.
