Government will not intervene in conflict between Chisinau City Hall and Termocom

The Government will not intervene in the conflict between the Chisinau City Hall and Termocom and in the disputes between Termocom and other economic entities, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Trade Igor Dodon said when asked by reporters to comment on the reduction of gas supplies to Termocom by SA Moldovagaz for the reason that the heat supplier did not pay a debt of 36 million lei. “Other local public authorities could face a similar situation and an intervention on the part of the Government would arouse unwanted interpretations. We repeatedly warned the City Hall that the heating charges should be updated in due time and that the people should not suffer because of certain ambitions. That’s why, we consider that the Government should not intervene at this stage,” Dodon said. He also said that the executive realizes that one third of the Chisinau residents will be affected. But, according to him, the Chisinau administration should also realize that they cannot break the law and must honor the commitments they made when they came to power. Dodon reiterated that there are several solutions to the problem, except the payment of the heating charge of 817 lei by the municipal authorities, but he did not say what solutions. Info-Prim Neo specifies that the charge of 817 lei/1 Gcal and of 875 lei/1 Gcal, which include Termocom’s debts to the thermoelectric plants and SA Moldovagaz, were proposed after a technical and financial audit control at SA Termocom, carried out by the Swedish company Sweco, on the proposal of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.
