Government will check if Romanian authorities’ statements about Moldovan wines’ poor quality are well-founded

The Government will investigate Romanian authorities’ allegations that certain wines imported from Moldova and sold on the Romanian market are of a bad quality. If the accusations turn out to be true, the producers will be punished, Prime Minister Vasile Tarlev told the reporters. According to the Premier, the Government is concerned over these statements and the relevant Moldovan bodies are examining them. Tarlev said that they asked for additional information from the Romanian colleagues and he is on no none’s side for the moment. If the Moldovan producers violated the normative-legislative basis, they will be sanctioned. If the allegations are not proven, the authorities will try to solve the problem by diplomatic ways, the Premier said. The National Authority for Consumer Protection of Romania has recently announced that it discovered deviations concerning the labeling and quality of the Moldovan wines, especially table wines (83% of the cases). The Agency’s inspectors also identified two cases of falsified wines that contained sweeteners, colourants or alcohol. Over 8,000 litres of wine worth 23,200 Romanian lei or about 10,000 USD were withdrawn from sale and destroyed during the check.
