Government warned about possibility of Ukraine scenario repeating in Moldova

The Government of Moldova must have a continuous dialogue with the national minorities all over the country, with the regions and with the political opposition, so as to avoid a scenario similar to that witnessed by Ukraine. The most important tasks of the authorities are now to ensure political stability, to develop democracy and to strengthen the state, Bashkan of Gagauzia Mihail Formuzal, who heads the public movement “United Gagauzia”, said in a news conference entitled “Results of the international scientific conference “State policy on national minorities and security in the Black Sea basin,” IPN reports.

Mihail Formuzal informed that an international conference centering on the interethnic relations, the state policies on national minorities and their impact on national security was held in Comrat several days ago. “It was an academic conference that proposed solutions to a number of problems faced by Moldovan society. The government should take these solutions into account. There was analyzed the situation in Moldova and in the neighboring states. We are concerned about the developments in Ukraine. We want the internal situation in Ukraine to stabilize. A number of mistakes were made there and those who are in power should draw conclusions and avoid them in the future,” stated the Bashkan.

According to Mihail Formuzal, there are many problems in Moldovan society and they must be solved by continuous dialogue. In the conference, experts from a number of countries, including Bulgaria, Ukraine, Russia and EU member states, formulated solutions to the problems faced by Moldova, which will be published in a book.

Historian Serghei Nazaria said the participants in the conference reached the conclusion that the situation in Ukraine, where people shoot each other, is serious and Moldova should hold negotiations and discussions with the whole society in order to avoid such scenarios. “If half of the country’s population does not agree with the government’s actions, the authorities must stop and have discussions with the people. Otherwise, the country will divide,” he stated.

According to him, it’s revolting that the power reacts violently to the views of a part of society that supports the integration into the Customs Union and the rapprochement with Russia, and openly tolerates extremist inclinations of other members of society.

For his part, the head of the Association “Motherland – Eurasian Union” Igori Tuleantsev said the political elite of Moldova repeats the behavior of the Ukrainian administration and promotes elements that he named pro-fascist. He expressed his dissatisfaction with the fact that the police imposed only a fine of 400 lei on the individual who vandalized the monument “Liberation” in the square of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova on May 9, saying such acts must be punished severely.

“The fact that the Moldovan political elite didn’t wear the Ribbon of Saint George in the May 9 demonstrations showed that they wanted to present the Soviet victories in a different light and this will have serious consequences. We won in 1945 and those who forgot this will be reminded about this,” said Igori Tuleantsev.
