Government tries to strangle freedom of expression attacking media in pre-election period: Journalism Ethics National Commission

The government uses its entire arsenal to strangle the freedom of speech in Moldova, attacking media in the pre-election period, the Journalism Ethics National Commission is quoted by Info-Prim Neo as saying. The craft commission of the Moldovan journalists debated on the attack unleashed against Pro TV Chisinau on October 23 in the Parliament. “The last messages coming right from the Parliament's floor trumpeting the attack signal on the independent station Pro TV Chisinau, by inventing liquidation possibilities with the help of the Broadcasting Coordinating Council leave no doubt: in the wake of the big electoral battle the power cleans up its way for a new return,” the communique reads. According to the Ethics Commission, the political forces are engaged in a fight more and more disoriented, and this feuding atmosphere is fully sent in the environment of the local media. “The language of indecency, of disdain and of hatred, adopted by a category of journalists serving the power or some parties self-styled as nationally oriented, create misunderstanding, disbelief and disgust among the people,” the Journalism Ethics Commission finds.
