The lights in the Government Building will be turned off for an hour on March 30, between 8:30pm and 9:30pm, in a move to celebrate Earth Hour. According to the Government’s press service, by this event it is reaffirmed the attention devoted to environmental and energy efficiency issues, IPN reports.
Earth Hour is annually held internationally as a lights-off event. Landmarks around the world turn off their non-essential lighting for Earth Hour to sensitize the population to such environmental problems as the irrational use of electric power, which is one of the causes of the acceleration of climate change that has been more intensely felt during the past few years.
For the first time, the event was celebrated in Sydney, Australia, in 2007. Moldova joined in 11 years ago, in 2008. Over 7,000 cities from about 180 countries marked the event last year.
