Government to design official language studying program for ethnic minorities

The executive will work out and implement an official language studying program for the ethnical minorities living in Moldova, Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Moldovanu said in a roundtable meeting held to mark the International Mother Language Day at the Interethnic Relations Bureau, Info-Prim Neo reports. Mihai Moldovanu said that after the law on spoken languages was adopted, the Government tried to step up the studying and use of the official language by adopting secondary laws and different language studying programs. ”The official language should be promoted in order to achieve social cohesion. Knowledge of the official language must become a vital necessity for all the citizens who want to integrate into the social, economic and cultural processes,” Mihai Moldovanu said. Elena Beleacova, director general of Interethnic Relations Bureau, said that Moldova can be a model for other countries as it is a poliethnic, multicultural and multilinguistic state, adding the keeping of the languages and traditions will contribute to the harmonious development of Moldova. Muharib Allahverdiev, co-chairman of the Coordinating Council of ethnocultural organizations accredited by the Interethnic Relations Bureau, said all the children of the ethnic minorities should be able to learn the mother tongue and thus the education process should be optimized. A poetry recital involving representatives of ethnic minorities was held at the Interethnic Relations Bureau on the occasion of the International Mother Language Day. Moldova is home to representatives of over 50 ethnic groups.
