The Government decided in its session this week to allot MDL 300,000 from the Reserve Fund for the reconstruction of the Lazo family mansion, located in Piatra, Orhei raion. The manor house of the Lazo family was built in the second half of the XIX century by Ion and Matilda Lazo. Exposition halls include personal objects, furniture, pictures, and books printed in the XIX century which belonged to the Lazo family. Serghei Lazo (1894-1920) was considered by the soviet historiography as a hero in the Russian Civil War at the beginning of the last century. The Bassarabian aristocrat was mentioned in the Soviet history textbooks as a legendary Bolshevik army commander and the leader of the partisan movement in Siberia, in the years of the Russian Civil War. According to these sources, as a volunteer, he left for the battle-front, and had a tragic death at only 26 – he was burnt alive in a steam engine. At present, this legend is being denied.
