Government suggests depriving allegedly corrupt judges of immunity
The judges suspected of corruption will remain without immunity. This is stipulated in a bill with amendments to a number of legislative acts regulating the activity of the judicial system, which was approved by the Government, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The bill also provides for the aleatory or random creation of panels of judges and aleatory appointment of the panel’s chairman by excluding the human factor.
The executive also approved a bill on the naming, promotion and assessment of the performance of judges. It describes a new mechanism for selecting candidates for the post of judge, for promoting them or transferring them to a court of the same level or to a higher court. These and other acts aimed at assessing the performance of judges will be done based on objective and transparent criteria that will be regulated by the Supreme Council of Magistrates.
Under the bill, there will be founded two colleges under the Supreme Council of Magistrates, which will replace the current qualification college. Minister of Justice Oleg Efrim said both of the bills form part of the justice sector reform strategy.
