Government suggests declaring state of emergency for 60 days

The Cabinet of Ministers proposes to the Parliament to declare a state of emergency on the entire territory of the country for a period of 60 days, starting with December 16. The decision was approved at Wednesday's meeting of the executive, IPN reports.

The draft refers to the Commission for Emergency Situations’ report on the need to declare a state of emergency.

"The cessation of the supply of natural gas to the Transnistrian region by Gazprom, based on the contract existing between Moldovagaz and Gazprom, will generate an imminent humanitarian crisis in the region and inevitable risks to the stability of the energy sector on the entire territory of the Republic of Moldova, on both banks of the Nistru," said Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Oleg Serebrian.
