Government should better explain results of its activity, Liliana Palihovici

The current government should focus more on the delivery of massages and presentation of the results of its work, especially as regards the implementation of different projects, Deputy Head of Parliament Liliana Palihovici, of the Liberal Democratic Party, said in the public debate “If parliamentary elections took place tomorrow … Image of the government and power perceived by Moldovan society as an index for the country’s political prospects” that was staged by IPN. According to her, the people must be informed about all the accomplishments and all the problems as this contributes to the government’s image.

The MP said the reforms that are now implemented, even if not all the people like them, are strictly necessary for Moldova. “A large part of the population wants reforms and changes that affect them directly. Unfortunately, the political education over the last 20 years wasn’t aimed at developing community spirit, civilian participation and personal contribution to changing the situation. They waited for somebody else to come and satisfy their needs,” she stated.

Liliana Palihovici said the government launched a series of very important projects and ambitious reforms. “The figures saying that Moldova should follow the path to European integration are high. More people want Moldova to join the European Union than the Eurasian Union. Thus, those who support this direction support also the steps taken by the government to bring the national standards closer to the European ones,” she said, adding that government wants to have the image of a promoter of democratization and modernization of the country.

Liliana Palihovici denied the criticism leveled by the opposition against the government, including as regards the reorganization of schools and going of people abroad, saying the Communist government invested in no area mentioned by the opposition as much as they invest now.

“I think the politicians should find suitable instruments to debate ideas, not to misinform as the people want to know not the names of those who do reforms, but how quickly and efficiently the reforms are done,” said the lawmaker.

The public debate “If parliamentary elections took place tomorrow … Image of the government and power perceived by Moldovan society as an index for the country’s political prospects” is the 23rd of the series “Development of political culture by public debates” that are organized with the support of the German foundation “Hanns Seidel”.
