Government sets allowances for children placed in parent assistants' care
The lump sum allowance paid when placing the child in the care of professional parent assistants will be 3,000 lei a month. In case of emergency or temporary placement, the allowance will be 500 lei and, respectively, 250 lei. For the children with disabilities, the monthly childcare allowance and the yearly allowance for clothes, footwear and sanitary and personal hygiene products will be by 30% higher, in accordance with a decision approved by the Government, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The childcare allowance will be 21 lei a day, while the allowance for clothes, footwear and sanitary and personal hygiene products will be 3,000 lei a year. The lump sum allowance
paid when the person turns 18 will be 1,000 lei.
Minister of Labor, Social Protection and Family Valentina Buliga said the higher allowances will enable the parent assistants to ensure normal development conditions for the children they look after. She also said that the professional parent assistance is a social service that allows the child to benefit from family care in the family of the parent assistant. The aim of the service is to temporarily protect the children in difficulty and to reintegrate them into the biological or extended family or other forms of family-type care.
The minister said that 82 parent assistants work in Moldova at present. They look after 96 children. 60 children have been reintegrated.
A sum of 1.8 million lei for the placement of 178 children and 1.01 million lei for the 96 children who are now in the care of parent assistants will be allocated next year for the purpose.
