Government requests new loan from EIB and EBRD

Prime Minister Vlad Filat signed a new loan request for €150 million from the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). The money is to be invested into the rehabilitation of national roads, reports Info-Prim Neo. Prime Minister Vlad Filat and EIB Vice-President Wilhelm Molterer met on Friday, September 21, in Chisinau, where they discussed the projects accomplished in Moldova with the support EIB, as well as projects to be implemented. “I’m signing this application and will be waiting for a positive answer. This loan will help us improve Moldova’s infrastructure”, mentioned Vlad Filat. The Premier communicated that the elaboration of an irrigation strategy will commence soon, and the trolleybus purchase project will be extended to Balti. “It is important to mention that the €2 million grant given by the EIB for the rehabilitation of dams will be applied by the end of this year”, specified the Prime Minister. Wilhelm Molterer stated that the EIB will support the initial stages of the irrigation projects. “It is absolutely vital for Moldova. Projects such as road infrastructure, energy, water supply, and others, are a priority for the European Union too. We are ready to collaborate with private businesses, and other investment institutions from Moldova”, stated the EIB Vice-President. The EIB and Moldova started collaborating in 2007. Since then Moldova received over €250 million euro for projects in several fields. Also on Friday, September 21, the EIB sings a loan agreement with the Chisinau City Hall, for €10 million, to be used for the rehabilitation of six of the city’s streets.
