Government requests Chisinau authorities to contribute funds for Tocuz-Cainari-Mereni gas main project

The Government requests the Chisinau City authorities to contribute 40 million lei to cover the expenses for the construction of the Tocuz-Cainari-Mereni gas main. At Monday’s City Hall meeting Mayor General Dorin Chirtoaca has asked the Law Department to prepare for the next meeting of the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) a report on the legal grounds for such an ingathering. The acting chief of the CMC’s Capital Constructions Department, Ion Dermengi, stated that the gas main project had a cost of roughly 200 million lei, 130 million of which had been covered by the Government. “The central authorities believe it will be fair if the remainder is covered by the municipality, given the significance of the gas main for the economy of the city”, Dermengi pointed out. The construction of the high pressure gas main Tocuz-Cainari-Mereni has been finished recently and is ready to be put into use. The gas main stretches on 62.5 kilometres and has a conveyance capacity of 800 million cubic meters per year. It is termed by the central authorities a strategic project for the country, which will fully meet the demand for gas of the capital city and a number of localities in the districts of Anenii Noi, Causeni and Ialoveni.
