By the July 31 deadline for the fulfillment of the commitments included in the priory reform action roadmap, the Government fully implemented 74 measures of the 82 planned. The other eight actions are being carried out. A report on the implementation of the roadmap will be transmitted to the High Representative of the Union and Vice President of the European Commission Federica Mogherini and the EU Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn in Brussels, Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu and Prime Minister Pavel Filip announced in a news conference, IPN reports.
Andrian Candu reminded that the priority reform action roadmap for implementing the Association Agreement with the EU was assumed in March, when the level of confidence in the authorities and politicians was close to zero. Among the eight measures under implementation are the assessment of the National Agency for Energy Regulation and the National Bank of Moldova and the adoption of the new Broadcasting Code and of the package of laws on the financial-banking sector. The report will also include the priorities of the autumn session of Parliament. “They say that well begun is half done. We have nice accomplishments, but there is yet a lot to be done,” stated the Speaker.
For his part, Pavel Filip said that six months ago, when he took up his duties, Moldova was politically and financially unstable and the people had no confidence in the state institutions and the political class. Thus, a roadmap was worked out for the reforming justice sector and the prosecution service and ensuring the freedom of the media.
The Premier noted that even if the key reform implementation pace is lower than 100%, the goal wasn’t to report the full completion, but to correctly do reforms and to show that the law rules in Moldova. During the autumn session, the legislature is to adopt the package of laws on the financial-banking sector, the Law on Integrity and the new Broadcasting Code. A group of European experts are assessing the situation in the financial sector and will submit relevant proposals, while the amendments proposed to the broadcasting legislation will be transmitted to the development partners for consideration.
Pavel Filip said that he has never been so optimistic about Moldova’s future and, even if an as difficult period follows, he is sure that the planned reforms will be implemented. He called on the people to support what was done and to oppose possible events aimed at destabilizing the situation.
