Government promotes child safety online

The executive approved the plan of action for promoting child and teenage safety online for 2017-2020, IPN reports.

Among the general objectives of the plan are to reduce the illegal online content, to promote a safer virtual environment by ensuring the cooperation of all the sides involved, to inform those who are in direct contact with children about the risks posed by the online environment and to compile statistics and carry out studies on safety online.

The most important measures that will be taken include the creation of national contact points for reporting illegal content on the Internet, setting up of information and counseling centers on online safety, development of the national legal and cooperation framework for counteracting the production and distribution of illegal content.

Prime Minister Pavel Filip said the approval of the given plan is one of the measures taken by the Government to ensure safety on the Internet. “In continuation, we must take all the other necessary measures to ensure the online safety of everyone, not only of children,” he stated.

A sum of 2.16 million lei is needed for implementing the plan. The costs will be covered with the funds provided by development partners.
