The current regional situation, as well as practical ways in which the United States can support Moldova in implementing reforms and advancing the European agenda, were discussed during a meeting between Prime Minister Dorin Recean and Christopher W. Smith, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Eastern Europe in the U.S. Department of State.
Dorin Recean appreciated the consistent support provided by the United States in helping Moldova modernize, improve living standards and stimulate economic growth.
He also welcomed the United States’ decision to introduce sanctions against people responsible for actions that subvert Moldova’s security.
The interlocutors discussed the priorities of the Moldovan Government, including the justice reform and fight against corruption, and efforts to improve the business environment to attract foreign investors, which, through activity carried out in Moldova, can also contribute to the reconstruction of Ukraine.
In this context, the parties reconfirmed their commitment to support Ukraine, which is fighting for the peace and stability of the entire European continent.
Deputy Assistant Secretary Christopher W. Smith also had a meeting with President Maia Sandu.
