Government pretends to be implementing AA with EU, extraparliamentary party leaders

Leaders of extraparliamentary parties consider the Association Agreement with the EU will not bring benefits to the Republic of Moldova as long as the government pretends to be doing reforms. The issue was developed in the program “Moldova live” on the public TV channel Moldova 1, IPN reports.

Ana Gutu, head of the Party “The Right”, said there are few chances for the Association Agreement to be implemented in Moldova. “The Association Agreement with the EU is good, but envisions the implementation of harsh reforms that will not have an immediate result. But the people want immediate results. Their economic hopes do not have a reflection in this document. The union with Romania is the only chance,” she stated.

Sergiu Corobceanu, co-chairman of the Social Democratic Party, considers the problem resides in the fact that during the 25 years of independence the Republic of Moldova hasn’t had an own project. “There was no own pro-Moldova project. We had pro-East and then pro-West projects, but no pro-Moldova project. And this is due to the irresponsibility of the Moldovan political class,” he stated.

Tatiana Potang, deputy head of the Liberal Reformist Party, noted the government is unable to do the reforms stipulated in the Association Agreement. “The Republic of Moldova does not have another alternative than the European course. The current government speculates on the pro-European course, but is unable to do reforms,” she said.

Mihai Petrachi, chairman of the Centrist Union of Moldova, said that by their actions, those who ruled the country starting with 2009 discredited the pro-European course. “In 2009, the number of those who wanted Moldova to integrate into the EU was of over 70%. Now this figure is twice lower,” he stated.
