Government prepares awareness campaign on taxable income estimation
The Government is considering a campaign to raise public awareness of the need of indirect estimation of individuals' taxable income, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“We need to communicate with people and make them aware that it is important to pay one's taxes, that taxes are not a whim, but an obligation, both legal and moral, for everyone of us”, stated Prime Minister Vlad Filat.
The campaign will inform the general public on the methods used for the indirect estimation of taxable income and what sources will be estimated. The first estimation is planned to include the 2012 individuals' incomes.
“To achieve progress we also need strong institutionalization. This means that those working in the tax revenue collection system should have adequate skills and capacities to perform this estimation”, added Filat.
Discussions on what further measures should be included in the campaign will continue next week, when the Ministry of Finance will hold a meeting featuring tax and customs officials.
