The Government of Japan will provide 43.7 million Japanese yen, which is the equivalent of US$400,000, in the form of a grant for improving the equipment for digitalizing the National Library of the Republic of Moldova. The Cabinet approved a decision on the initiation of negotiations and signing of an agreement compiled by the exchange of notes between the Government of the Republic of Moldova and the Government of Japan, IPN reports.
There was also approved a decision on the initiation of negotiations and signing of a grant agreement between the Government of the Republic of Moldova and the Japan International Cooperation Agency on the implementation of the Improvement of Equipment for Digitizing the National Library Project. Both of the international treaties refer to this project.
The Ministry of Education, Culture and Research said the National Library of the Republic of Moldova urgently needs to preserve the historical, cultural and general interest resources of the country that are available at the library and at the partner institutions and to increase the people’s accessibility to these resources.
