Government intends to fulfil commitments under Moldova-EU Action Plan 4 months ahead of schedule

Prime Minister Vasile Tarlev requested the National European Integration Commission to hasten the implementation of the provisions of EU-Moldova Action Plan. The Government intends to fulfil the commitments assumed in the document by November 17 this year, although the negotiated term expires no earlier than on March 1, 2008. Deputy Minister of Economy and Commerce Viorel Melnic stated at the meeting of the National European Integration Commission on September 28 that all the actions included in the Plan for obtaining commercial preferences by Moldova from the European Union have been implemented. The country is waiting for the final decision of the EU. Until the end of the year, the Asymmetric Trade Agreement could be signed. The new Nomenclature of Commodities, which is to be submitted for approval in two weeks, is about to be defined. At the same time, the draft law on public private partnership, scheduled by the Plan for September, has not been finished yet. The Ministry of Transport and Road Management also didn’t respect the term for the presentation and approval by the Government of the Terrestrial Transport Infrastructure Strategy. Speaking about the obligations of this ministry, PM Tarlev said that the progress expected by the Government has not been attained. Earlier, the Prime Minister warned the civil servants that they could be dismissed if they do not fulfil their duties concerning the European Integration of Moldova in due time.
