Government institutes official day to commemorate Nistru war heroes
The executive approved amendments to the decision concerning the public holidays and nonworking days, whereby March 2 was declared the day for commemorating those who died in the 1991-1992 Nistru war for defending Moldova's independence and integrity, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Minister of the Interior Victor Catan said 29,000 persons took part in the armed conflict on the Nistru. 3,402 of them were employees of the Ministry of the Interior. The war took 286 lives. 289 participants remained disabled.
At Wednesday's meeting, the Government approved the composition of a working group that will organize commemoration activities dedicated to the 18th anniversary of the start of the war. The group will be headed by Deputy Prime Minister Ion Negrei. The executive also decided to allocate 400,000 lei from its reserve fund for carrying out the planned activities.
