Government ignores most active civic segment in dialogue with civil society, BUN

The National Unity Bloc (BUN), which consists of over 20 NGOs, condemns the way in which the senior administration chooses its dialogue partners from among civil society organizations. According to the representatives of the bloc, even when the so-called Public Forum was organized, the power selected its interlocutors according to non-transparent criteria, ignoring the most active civic segment.

In a news conference at IPN on October 15, the representative of the National Unity Bloc Constantin Codreanu said that he expressed his readiness to take part in the dialogue both in a public way, by a communique issued by the Civic Movement “Moldova’s Youth” on October 12, and in a private way, by discussions with persons involved in the organization of the Public Forum. It’s regrettable that the authorities are afraid to initiate really open discussions so as to identify the concrete steps that must be taken to overcome the profound crisis faced by the country.

According to Constantin Codreanu, the ignoring of those with pro-Romanian views shows that the power is far from the reality and that is disrespects the people’s wishes. “Recently, Moldova signed an agreement by which it will receive a loan of €150 million from Romania. We think it is hypocrisy to accept Romania’s money, but to ignore us as a fundamental part of society,” he stated.

Constantin Codreanu also said that the unionist movement welcomes the idea of holding a referendum on Moldova’s union with Romania put forward by Head of Parliament Andrian Candu, noting the fact that this idea was stated by a high-ranking official is a victory for the unionists. Though its representatives weren’t invited to attend the October 14 forum, the unionist movement is ready to take part in other similar meetings that will be yet held.

BUN member Claudia Iovita said that since its foundation, the unionist movement staged a multitude of activities, including summer schools, trips, book donations, the Flower Bridge and street marches that involved thousands of people. The supporters and members of the unionist movement want to make the authorities realize that Moldova’s union with Romania is the only viable solution for overcoming the crisis, but the administration neglects this segment of civil society.

The National Unity Bloc is a coalition consisting of over 20 nongovernmental organizations and initiative groups that plead for Moldova’s union with Romania.
