Government hasn’t yet distributed the places for Master Degree applicants

7 days are left before the start of the admission process for a Master Degree, whereas the Government hasn’t decided how to distribute the 560 available places financed by the state budget. During the last session, this matter has been discussed already twice in the Cabinet. In both cases, PM Vasile Tarlev pleaded against the distribution suggested by the involved ministries, considering them incorrect within the way the authorities decided to prioritize the departments required by the national economy. The initial variant of the project appointed a number of 15 places for mathematics, 10 – chemical technologies, 5 – geography, 5 – sociology, 4 – international relations, 10 – social assistance, 3 – survey studies, 2 – architecture etc. meanwhile, 23 places were offered for law students, 87 for philology and 24 for psychology. The Ministry of Education and Youth, Victor Tvircun mentioned that these places were distributed as suggested by the higher education institutions and took into consideration the number of students enrolled in these departments, envisioning the educational strategies of the recent years. The second variant of the project was suggested during the session of September 5 and hasn’t been made public. The new decisional project hasn’t been available to the press as well. The Prime-Minister requested the responsible structures to suggest as soon as possible a suitable variant for distributing the places, without jeopardizing the educational process. Admission is set to begin on September 15.
