President Maia Sandu requested the Government to detail and present a set of proposals for managing the pandemic crisis to Parliament. The proposals were discussed by the Supreme Security Council (SSC) on March 12, IPN reports.
In a press briefing, President Sandu warned that health experts forecast the number of infections and deaths due to COVID-19 will rise even further in Moldova. She recommended the Government and Parliament to declare a state of emergency for two weeks.
The Government will compile the list of restrictions that will be imposed, the activities and the categories of citizens that will fall under these and the compensations that will be offered by the state.
The presidential administration recommends modifying the composition of the National Extraordinary Public Health Commission so that this includes epidemiologists and doctors, and activating the Common Command Center at the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations that will consist of representatives of all the institutions responsible for managing the crisis.
It is also recommended accelerating the vaccination campaign, creating an online program for the people to schedule appointments to be immunized during the mass vaccination stage, working out of a mechanism for supplying compensated medicines at home, extending the testing capacities and compensating the salary earners, patent holders and other categories for losses sustained because of the state of emergency in the amount of at least 1,000 lei a week.
“Dear citizens, we each day lose dear people: grandparents, artists, doctors – people who bring value to this country. We are going through this crisis together and depend on each other. It is a very difficult period, but I’m sure that we have the capacity and power to overcome the crisis successfully – solidary, united in front of this danger,” stated Maia Sandu.
The meeting involved members of the SSC, decision makers from different areas, especially the health sector, the mayor general of Chisinau and leaders of parliamentary groups.
