Government does not support proposed concessions on mortgage

The executive did not endorse a parliamentary group’s proposal to amend the Tax Code so as to exempt the private individuals who took out mortgage from paying the income tax, Info-Prim Neo reports. Under the initiative, the exemption should be 100% for the taxable income that does not exceed 60,000 lei, 50% for the income lower than 90,000 lei and 25% for the income of under 120,000 lei. The Government argued that there should be equity in the process of obtaining mortgages. This legislative initiative crates privileged conditions for persons who purchase dwellings through mortgage and discredits against the persons who purchase or build homes by their own forces. The initiative says that the beneficiaries of exemptions may include persons who do not own and did not own a dwelling or own a dwelling with at most 12 square meters per person. The executive said the syntagm “who do not own and did not own a dwelling” is defective because the person who takes out a mortgage comes into possession of a home. Consequently, the dwelling belongs to the given person. The bill is to be examined in Parliament.
