The governmental commission for the country’s reunification came together for its first meeting on Monday, March 28. Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Eugen Carpov told the press that the discussions centered on the working out of a strategy that will contain the steps and measures aimed at resolving the Transnistrian dispute, Info-Prim Neo reports. Eugen Carpov said the new strategy will not include conceptions different from those formulated by the previous governments, but assured that the circumstances and opportunities for solving the conflict are now more visible, especially in the context of the interest expressed by the international community in this respect. “Our international partners show an increased interest in the developments in our country. I refer to the visits paid by the U.S. Vice President Joe Biden and the EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton. We have a real mechanism for discussions in the 5+2 format, which did not exist earlier,” said Eugen Carpov. Asked by the press to comment on the recent incidents in Corjova, the official said that those arrests represent an additional proof that the situation in the Security Zone is not positive and that the mechanisms applied there are not functional. Eugen Carpov also said that the two young men from Corjova were set free with the assistance of the Joint Control Commission and the bodies that manage the Security Zone. The governmental commission for the country’s reunification was constituted on March 4. It consists of members of the Cabinet, Moldova’s representatives in the Join Control Commission and of delegates of the law enforcement bodies.
