Government cuts catalog of products subject to compulsory compliance certification

The classified list of products that are subjected to compulsory compliance certification was reduced from 246 to 41 groups of goods, Info-Prim Neo reports. Deputy Minister of Economy Octavian Calmac said the given Government decision is aimed at stimulating the real sector of the economy, which is one of the pillars of the economic recovery and stabilization program for 2009-2011. According to Calmac, the dialogue with the economic entities and business associations revealed that the obligatory certification of the compliance of the goods in the regulated areas hinders them in their activity. Besides, in some cases the compliance certification is required repeatedly as specified in other Government decisions or technical regulations (minimum quality and safety standards). The 41 groups of products do not have technical regulations and are not certified by compliance assessment procedures specified in other normative documents. A number of goods from the sensitive sectors of the economy, which have a competitive advantage, will be also subjected to compulsory compliance certification. The move is designed to protect the national producers and the home market. The Ministry of Economy considers that the review and updating of the catalog will help eliminate the dubious interpretations and inadequate treatment as regards the compulsory certification of the compliance of the products in the regulated areas.
