Government instituted a new commission authorised to select candidates for the position of Judge of the European Court of Human Rights. The composition of the Commission is much the same as the previous one, which selected 3 candidates that were not accepted. The Commission is composed of: Vitalie Parlog – Minister of Justice, Chairman of the Commission, Valeriu Ostalep – Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Chairman, Lilia Grimaschi – Deputy Head of the International Relations and European Integration Department of the Ministry of Justice, Secretary of the Commission, Edgar Bejan – Deputy Head of Law & Public Relations Department of the President’s Office, Anatol Zagorodnai – MP, Roman Cazan – First Deputy Head of Government Office, Vladimir Grosu – Moldovan Government’s Representative to ECHR, Alina Ianucenco – Judge at the Constitutional Court, Nicolae Clima – Head of the Higher Magistrate’s Council, Ion Muruianu – Chairman of the Supreme Court of Justice, Eugenia Fistican – Executive Director of the National Institute of Justice, Igor Serbinov – Assistant Prosecutor General, Gheorghe Amihalachioaie – Head of the Council of Moldova Bar Association, Sergiu Branza – Head of the Criminal Law Department of the Moldova State University and Roman Mihaies – chairman of the League for the Defence of Consumer Rights. The structure of the Commission, except for 4 members, is similar to the one created in February. The previous commission proposed as candidates Victoria Iftodi, head of Moldova’s Diplomatic Mission to France, former Ministry of Justice, Victor Orandas, Judge at the Chisinau Economic Court and Lilia Vasilevici, Judge at the Chisinau Centru District Court, former Chair of the Court. On September 17, the ECHR Subcommittee for the Election of Judges rejected the list of candidates proposed by Moldova. The present Commission is to select another three candidates for the ECHR Judge office. At present, Moldova’s judge in the ECHR is Stanislav Pavlovski.
