Government constitutes Consultative Public Health Council

A Consultative Public Health Council was set up by the Government following the worsening of the epidemiological situation in Moldova. It will provide expertise, consultancy and recommendations for efficiently managing the epidemiological situation due to the spread of COVID-19 and other risky epidemiological situations that affect public health.

In the Council’s first meeting, acting Prime Minister Aureliu Ciocoi expressed his concern about the rise in the number of infections. He said he is confident that the creation of this work platform will help to take prompt and efficient decisions.

Secretary of state at the Ministry of Health Tatiana Zatyk said the number of infections and of associated deaths and also of areas placed under red alert increased considerably the past two weeks. The Council members underlined the necessity of instituting harsher restrictions all over the country so as to reduce the pressure on the health system.

The National Extraordinary Public Health Commission on February 26 decided to institute a special activity regime at national level for education institutions, transport, theaters and concert institutions for the period between March 1 and 14. Also, the persons who will enter Moldova as from March 5 will be obliged to present the negative result of the PCR COVID-19 test done within 72 hours before arrival or will have to self-isolate for 14 days.
