Government confirms decision to concede Chisinau Airport

The Government confirmed the decision to concede the Chisinau International Airport taken this May. Prime Minister Iurie Leanca proposed adding a new point to the confirmed decision, which would provide that the concession contract should be published, IPN reports.

“The company that will manage the airport gave its consent. We are for making the concession contract known so that everyone knows it and there are no incorrect interpretations. The clauses will be published as soon as possible, possible today, on the website of the Ministry of Economy,” said the Premier. He ordered creating a council that would monitor the fulfillment of the contract by the company.

Deputy Prime Minister Valeriu Lazar said the executive’s decision is not aimed at influencing the decision of the Constitutional Court, which was asked by the Liberal reformers to pronounce on the constitutionality of the May decision.

Deputy Prime Minister Tatiana Potang said the draft decision on the confirmation of the decision to concede the airport wasn’t proposed for debates before the meeting. According to her, they should better wait for the decision of the Constitutional Court, which is to become known in two days.

Minister of the Environment Gheorghe Salaru also said they do not need to hurry, but didn’t provide arguments.

The airport was conceded to a company from Russia’s Habarovsk that will manage it for 49 years. The company pledged to invest €250 million in the airport.
