Government condemns PCRM’s attempts to manipulate public opinion

The Government of Moldova condemns the Communist Opposition’s attempts to manipulate the public opinion over the events held to commemorate the victims of deportations and political repression, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the executive. The reaction comes after the Communists Party (PCRM) accused the Government of using administrative resources for political purposes when staging the June 13 commemoration meeting. “For the first time this year, the Government came up with the initiative to stage a commemorative event to remember the victims of deportations and political repression. Such events are part of the Government’s efforts to rehabilitate the deports and the victims of political repressions and offer the financial support,” the Government says in a communiqué The executive says the central authorities pledged to pay compensations to these groups of people instead of the local authorities. Significant sums of money have been allocated this year for the purpose, including 15.4 million lei on June 10. A sum of 25 million lei was earmarked in the 2010 state budget for paying compensations to the victims of deportations and political repression. “The PCRM’s attempts to give political connotations to the commemoration meeting show total disrespect for the deportees and the repressed. The Government of Moldova calls on the political forces not to allow that such a sensitive issue as the Stalinist deportations and repression be politicized.
