Government coalition does not have common position on Cojocaru commission's report, UPDATE
Acting President Mihai Ghimpu said he will propose examining the report of the commission for studying the totalitarian Communist regime in Moldova (1924-1991) at the July 6 sitting of the Parliament, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“Each of us has the right to put up legislative initiatives and this is a legislative initiative that is not connected with the presidential decree (the decree to set up the commission -e.n.). But, under the decree, the head of state can submit a proposal in Parliament on the basis of the commission's report,” Mihai Ghimpu said before the meeting of the Alliance for European Integration on July 2. He also said the decision to create this commission was reached by the leaders of the Alliance.
Asked to comment on the issue, the leader of the Liberal-Democrat faction in Parliament Mihai Godea said a working group comprising representatives of all the factions should be created to take a balanced decision on this report and the draft decision on it.
The leader of the Moldova Noastra Alliance Serafim Urecheanu said there is yet room for discussions. “We must talk and decide how to vote. I, as first deputy speaker of Parliament, did not see the commission's report,” Serafim Urecheanu said.
Marian Lupu, the head of the Democratic Party, said in the morning he will not take part in the Alliance's meeting because he planned a field trip.
[UPDATE 5.20pm] After the meeting, the leaders of the Alliance confirmed that the Cojocaru commission's report will be discussed at the July 6 parliamentary sitting that is set to start at 14.00. On July 6 in the morning, the senior authorities will lay flowers at the commemorative stone placed in the square of the Railway Terminal to remember the victims of the second deportation wave.
