Forty school buses were distributed to schools in 21 districts of Moldova on June 1. Another nine buses will get to schools in another six districts the coming days. The project was financed by the Government of Moldova and implemented by the Ministry of Education, Info-Prim Neo reports. The 49 buses will take to school about 3,200 children. The district schools are situated at a distance of 3 – 10 km of the villages of the students. Over 42 million lei went to purchase the units of transport. Among the recipients of buses are three high schools situated in the Transnistrian districts Rybnitsa, Bender and Dubasari. Attending the handover ceremony, Prime Minister Vlad Filat said education is a priority for Moldova and the steps taken by the Government to modernize the education system are a proof of this. The buses were bought as part of the structural reform implemented in the education sector, which, according to Minister of Education Mihail Shleahtitski, aims to ensure access to education of a high quality for all the children in Moldova. The 109 buses working at present transport to school over 7,200 students from about 150 settlements. Over 95 million lei was invested in school transport during 2010 – 2012.
