Government approves, while Chisinau City Hall pays, Dorin Chirtoaca

Mayor General Dorin Chirtoaca is dissatisfied with the fact that the pay raises for the teachers of Chisinau municipality are paid with money from the municipal budget. In Monday’s meeting of City Hall officials, he said that the Chisinau administration has covered the related costs for the fourth consecutive year, Info-Prim Neo reports. ”The law applies to the whole country, but the costs in the municipality of Chisinau are covered with municipal funds. Everyone waits for the pays to be increased, the teachers probably most of all, but we should have the necessary financial resources. The Chisinau City Hall has always fulfilled its obligations in this respect, but in fact it is not its duty to raise the salaries in education,” said the mayor. According to the head of the General Finance Division Veronica Herta, a sum of 19.5 million was allocated from the municipal budget for raising Chisinau teachers’ salaries. Under a Government Decision, teachers’ salaries were increased by 12.5% from September 1. It was the third pay raise after those of September 1, 2010 and January 1, 2011. More than 69,000 persons working in the education sector will benefit from raises. The teacher’s minimum salary is projected to rise to 2 500 lei, while the highest salary – to over 5 000 lei. According to the Ministry of Education, the salaries in education in 2010 were increased by 24%.
