Government approves draft justice reform strategy

The draft strategy for reforming the legal system was endorsed by the Government and sent to Parliament for adoption. The strategy contains a series of short, medium and long-term measures aimed at reforming the bodies of the Prosecutor’s Office, the justice for minors and the penal and civil procedures, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the Government. The strategy started to be drafted in June and was discussed within working groups in several stages. Before this, the draft strategy was examined by experts contracted by the Council of Europe. The document is to be adopted by the legislature in October. The strategy aims to build an accessible, efficient, independent, transparent, professional and responsible legal system that would meet the European standards, ensure the rule of law and the respect for the human rights. The reform was determined by the people’s low level of confidence in justice, the corruption in the legal system and the necessity of creating a favorable environment for economic growth and investment. The implementation of the five-year strategy will be monitored by permanent working groups created for every strategic pillar of this document. The Ministry of Justice will work out a financial framework that will include the strategy implementation costs and a plan of action that will contain the amounts needed for every separate measure.
